Amusement Epitome

Synopsis

A weekday afternoon on the EverLand, one of the largest amusement parks in Korea.

This short video documents the contradiction in the providence of amusement that our global world would usher in, driven by the very consumer culture. Particularly, its annual EuroFestival is the controversial epitome of cliches of Western and non-Western representations, and many Korean people, young and old, men and women, urban and rural all alike, absorb them as a taken-for-granted visual experience. Referring to early cinema, I attempt to directly address ordinary life praxis in the amusement park as the source of cinematic spectacle, "naively" captured by a vacationer's eyes.
